The amalgamation of the GNoSR and a number of subsidiaries was authorised on 30/7/1866 and took effect from 1/8/1866. The lines affected were:
Aberdeen & Turriff Railway (formerly the Banff, Macduff & Turriff Junction Railway)
Alford Valley Railway
Banff, Macduff & Turriff Extension Railway
Formartine & Buchan Railway
Inverury & Old Meldrum Junction Railway
Keith & Dufftown Railway
Srathspey Railway
The Banffshire Railway was amalgamated with the GNoSR on 12/8/1867.
The Deeside Railway and Aboyne Extension Railway were amalgamated with the GNoSR from 1/8/1875*1, authorised retrospectively by an Act of 13/7/1876, and the Aboyne & Braemar Railway was amalgamated from 31/1/1876*2, under a retrospective Act of 13/7/1876.
The Morayshire Railway finally agreed to amalgamate from 1/10/1880, the decision being ratified retrospectively by an Act of 11/8/1881*3.
By 1881, all the above lines had become part of the Great North of Scotland Railway, which comprised the lines and stations listed in Sections 1 and 2.
On 1/1/23, the GNoSR was amalgamated with the London and North Eastern Railway, where it was the smallest constituent company. The LNER, along with the other three "grouped" companies, the LMS, GWR and Southern Railway, were nationalised from 1/1/48.
